Ciudad Real 2024: It's almost time!

¡Hola a todos! 

I hope you all are doing well! Can you believe we're only a few days out from our departure? In no time at all we'll be exploring Ciudad Real, speaking the language, eating delicious food, enjoying the warm Spanish sun and making some incredible memories. I hope you all are just as excited as we are! Lindsay  and I can't wait to see you all again and begin this journey together.

By now, you should have received additional information from the IUHPFL team about our departure. These updates have the most current information to prepare you and your student for our trip, so make sure you've reviewed them! If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to the IUHPFL office team.

After we arrive in Ciudad Real, we'll updating this blog regularly during our trip to let you know about all the exciting things your students are up to! You can check back here every few days for pictures and stories about our travels and daily life in Ciudad Real. We're excited to show you how much your student will learn and grow over the course of just one month!

The Final Week

 ¡Hola a todos! Apologies that it's taken so long for me to post another update, we've had a VERY busy final week in Spain! As I write this post, we're currently back in the USA and are awaiting our next (and final) flight to Indianapolis. Everyone's super excited to see their families and friends again and to tell you all about their adventures here! There's a lot to tell, but here's just a bit of what we've been up to this week: First off, on Monday we went to the pool! Or, more specifically, a waterpark in Ciudad Real called "Playa Park", where we got to cool off and enjoy the pool and some super fun waterslides!   Then on Tuesday we went live on the radio in Ciudad Real to talk about our experiences here in Spain. An adventure in Córdoba!

¡Hola a todos! Sorry to leave you waiting so long to hear about our adventures here in Spain-- we've had an exciting last few days! This past weekend we all went on our first excursion together to the city of Córdoba, located a few hours south of Ciudad Real in the province of Andalusia. The city is famous for its history and architecture, made unique by the mixture of cultures and religions that lived here for centuries during the Middle Ages. During our day trip, the students got a taste of this culture and history while also having the chance to explore the city! We arrived in Córdoba at around noon, not long after eating our mid-morning merienda (snack). We were greeted by our first guide of the day, Rafa (short for Rafael), who gave us a tour of the historic city center and the judería, the Jewish neighborhood of Córdoba between the 10th and 15th centuries. Getting to know the city

Hola a todos, we've had a busy past few days in Ciudad Real! Yesterday was the students' first full day of classes. They're all already working hard and learning a lot-- but that doesn't mean they're not still having fun! During our first break yesterday, some students passed the time playing card games, while others played a bit of fútbol with some kids at the school. After lunch, we all went outside for afternoon activities. The activity of the day: ¡deportes! Some students started a pick-up game of soccer, some tossed around a football (and tried to teach me how to throw it correctly), while others took the opportunity to relax and bask in the sun. Later that evening, we all met at the school gates for a walking tour of Ciudad Real. Our tour guide, Maru, showed us some incredible sights and we learned so much about the history of the city!
